A Little Secret About Frequency Shift on The Tesoro Vaquero/Cibola

Try this:

  • Ground balance your machine (Tesoro Vaquero) by being on the middle frequency (14.5 kHz)
  • Now, if you switch to the lower frequency and check your ground balance, you may notice it slightly negative
  • Switch now to the higher frequency, and you will notice the ground balance slightly positive

What's the utility of this??? well, imagine you are detecting a field and you find a spot with some hot-rocks or bricks..., by switching to the higher frequency you will get a more stable machine without the need of adjusting the ground balance. The difference on ground balance is not a lot, but sometimes it is just the necessary in several cases.
You may also try this with the Cibola in order to minimize some chatter caused by minerals.

Mod: Increasing Sensitivity/Gain on the Tesoro Compadre

Find the sensitivity pot by taking the image bellow as reference, then make the necessary adjustments with a precision screwdriver. Be gentle!

Counter clockwise: more gain

Clockwise: less gain

By being away of any metallic object or any source of electromagnetic interference, increase the Gain to the point where it starts to chatter and then reduce Gain a little. Bear in mind that an stable machine is more productive and enjoyable to use than a chatter box.

Happy hunting!
